CONCACAF Gold Cup History and Winners : CONCACAF Gold cup is one of the oldest tournament in the whole of North America. The first edition of the tournament was held on 1961, but with different name. The name ” Gold cup ” has come in to existence from 1991. The biennial tournament was conducted for finding the soccer champions of North America. United States holds the record of hosting most no of Gold Cups. Let’s now dig out some history on CONCACAF Gold cup.

The inaugural edition of Gold Cup was hosted by United States, the host nations won the tournament beating Honduras. 1990 – 2000 decade was dominated by Mexico, Mexico won 3 consecutive gold cups (1993, 96, 98 ). Canada has won their first ever Gold cup on 2000 beating Colombia. United states regained the gold cup in the year 2002 by beating Costa Rica. FIFA World Cup 2002 champions Brazil was invited to play in 2003 Gold cup as guest nation, Brazil entered in the finals of 2003 gold cup but got beaten by Mexico. In 2007, the host nation United States regained their Gold cup from the hands of Mexico. United states played panama in the finals of 2007 Gold Cup. The 2009 Gold Cup took place in United States from July 3 to July 26. Mexico claimed the title by beating United States. Mexico defended their title in next edition of Gold Cup, i.e 2011 Gold Cup. Mexico defeated United States in the finals of 2011 Gold Cup.  United States struggled in the entire tournament but somehow got into the finals by beating Panama in a score line of 1-0. In 2013, United States emerged victorious defeating Panama in the finals. Since the formation of Gold Cup, Mexico has won 6 titles, United States won 5 and once by Canada. The runners up includes  Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama and  Brazil.
